When travelling we want to keep memories from the places we visit and that’s why we took pictures and videos. Today I’m going to show you some of the places I’ve visited in my country and if you are looking for nice places to go and experience, this post is for you ;D
Today’s post is about Chichiriviche and its cays, and Médanos de Coro (Coro’s Sand Dunes) in the northeast of Falcon‘s territory. Both are National Parks, the cays are part of “Morocoy National Park” which is located in Tucacas. The Sand Dunes are in the Punto Fijo peninsula.
Since there’s just one way to go to the Punto Fijo peninsula, they have to move the sand from the main road all the time. On the left you can see some vehicles parked and people on their way to the dunes. It’s a beautiful place, but be careful of the heat and the sand since the wind can be a bit difficult to handle if you don’t have sunglasses or something to protect your eyes and don’t even try to go there in flip-flops or your feet will get burn.
Now, let’s go to the beach!!Chichiriviche is not a big place but a small one and its atractive is the cays. The closer one is “Cayo Sal” and you can see it above on the left side. It takes around 5 minutes to get there.
The atractive of this cay if the “red lake” and the “salt” in the border of it. If you have any cut or you shaved your legs that day (or the day before) it will irritate your skin, so be careful.
The bigger and the farther cay is “Cayo Sombrero”, it takes like 12 or 15 minutes and sometimes the boat driver will take you on a tour around mangroves and other smaller cays.
The first time a went to this place was in 2008 and at that time the boat driver showed us some “pools”, not exactly like the photo above but you can touch the sand in the middle of the sea and people with their private boats spending their time there.
The following pictures is a coral reef and this mountain is what divides Chichiriviche from Tucacas. Thousand of years ago this was underwater and now you can see the caves and what used to be the home of some creatures for many years.
This place is restricted and protected by the country’s National Park Institute, mostly of the time turtles lay their eggs in this beach. The only way to get in this place is with kayaks and not many people are allowed to. It is said its name “Mayorquina” is a reference of Mallorca (Spain) and their little similarity.
About hotels/motels or places to stay in Chichiriviche, the first time I went there (2008) we rented someone’s apartment for a holiday (4 days) and the second time (2016) it was in a motel my father was staying for his job back then.
At that time there were many scammers due to Venezuela’s economy situation. Indeed, some families went to the place we were after being robbed and scammed by others. I don’t know how is the situation nowadays and if isn’t a thing anymore, but if you ever come here, please be careful when choosing a place to stay.
Were there bigger differences from 2008 to 2016 in Chichiriviche? Not really, it’s still the same. In 2016 we spent some hours with no power and poor mobile signal and since this current year we had the worst blackout in the Venezuelan history and still many areas of the country have no electricity for so many hours every single day, maybe this place is one of the affected provinces.
Anyway, I didn’t want to end this post like this but I thought it was better to say the reality and if any tourist wants to come to this place, this is what they will see and experience in there. Sometimes it’s better to be prepared for any inconvenience in the trip.
